    ZOOrific tours
Guided tours of the Zoo – We make visiting the zoo educational as well as fun

A zoo educator or a trained volunteer will lead your class around the zoo, making stops at an animal exhibit that illustrates program themes. The educator will give insights on the animals, share biofacts and engage students in simple activities. Each program will also incorporate a live animal presentation. Each tour last about one hour and is designed for groups of 35 students or less.

Our guided tours are set up for kindergarten through adults, and you must make a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance. The program lasts about 1 hour. We offer 3 specialized tours listed below.

    Claws and Jaws
Zoo educators will focus on both the Zoo’s fiercest and most timid animals. Your class will visit the Zoo to learn about predator and prey animals and how they fit into an ecosystem’s food chain. Students will explore the ways that predators hunt for food and prey avoids becoming someone else’s lunch. They will learn about adaptations that animals have that help them survive in their habitat. A walking tour will include touchable biofacts and live animal presentations.
Fee: $2 per person in addition to general admission fees. Minimum fee: $30

    Tales of Scales
Take an up close look at the scaly and slimy creatures that are found in the zoo’s herpetarium. Learn about the differences between reptiles and amphibians, the unique abilities some have to survive and capture food and why some are disappearing from the wild. This program will feature examples of various reptiles and amphibians and include a special opportunity to touch a live snake.
Fee: $2 per person in addition to general admission fees. Minimum fee $30

    Zoo Explorer

    Safari Theater
This 30-minute program can enhance your zoo visit by introducing your students to a variety of live animals in an intimate and up-close experience in our outdoor theater. Zoo educators will present several live animals and discuss behavior, adaptations and characteristics of several of our educational animals including a mammal, reptile and bird.

    On Your Own Visits
Self-guided tours give students and teachers a chance to explore the Zoo on their own using scavenger hunt sheets to search for clues and answer questions concerning each group of animals.
