Founded in 1955 and located in the heart of Thompson Park, the Amarillo Zoo features over 45 species of animals and 50 varieties of plant life in a beautiful 15-acre forest like setting. The City of Amarillo completed a new Zoo Master Plan in 2003. The Master Plan is currently being implemented by the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department. Since 2004, the expansion of the Amarillo Zoo has included the following exhibits: - Bengal Tiger
- Coatimundi
- Serval
- Wallabies
- African Lions
- Herpetarium (Scheduled to open Summer2009)
